FOUNDER & EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR:
Angela Watson Daliet (ADaliet@sosnola.org)
Angela is a native of West Monroe, LA, a Louisiana public school graduate and a single parent of three New Orleans public school students. After receiving her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of New Orleans, she worked locally as an investment advisor for many years. Angela was devastated with the total loss of her family’s home, school and community in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. In exile, she organized her widely scattered school community and successfully pushed the district to reestablish her children’s public school. These early efforts to ensure that children and families could return and create a better New Orleans evolved into the work of SOSNOLA. Angela has vigorously advocated for improved public schools since her eldest entered the system in 2001. Since October 2005, Angela has been listening to parents and community members documenting their concerns and aspirations for public schools and advocating to have those voices implicated in local public education policy and practice. She has significant experience in parental organizing, business planning, membership development, management building and fundraising which has led her to become an established community leader for change. Angela began working as Executive Director of SOSNOLA fulltime in June 2007. She and her three sons finally moved back into the city in September 2007, settling into their Mid City home.
