Amendments to Title IX - Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Sex in Education Programs or Activities Receiving Federal Financial Assistance; Final Rule
In October of 2006 The Department of Education and the Office of Civil Rights released official amendments to Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, regulations prohibiting discrimination based on gender in federally assisted education programs. These amendments expand the flexibility of regulations pertaining to single-sex schools, classes and extra-curricular activities, and set clear guidelines for ensuring that all single-sex education programs are run in a non-discriminatory manner. This document outlines issues around the legality of single-sex schools, and states specific requirements of single-sex schools and programs. In addition, the amendments detail the regulations and procedures for periodic evaluations of such schools and programs.

The Louisiana School, District and State Accountability System
Title 28: Education, Part LXXXIII, Bulletin 111 of the December 2007 Louisiana Administrative Code sets out the official guidelines for Louisiana school district’s and individual schools’ accountability standards and procedures, their relationship to No Child Left Behind requirements, and the methods for calculation and implementation of these standards. It lays the ground rules for determining figures such as attendance, dropout, and graduation rates, and defines the Growth and Performance Labels necessary for determining district and school eligibility for rewards as well as for academic assistance. Details concerning facility and program requirements surrounding alternative and special education students, charter schools, and newly reconfigured schools are also included in this Bulletin.

LOUISIANA’S CHARTER SCHOOL LAW (through 2007)
The purpose of Louisiana’s Charter School Law is to establish formal rules and regulations regarding the details of public charter schools. The Law distinguishes between the duties of the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, local school boards, and individual chartering authorities. It details the process of writing, establishing, revising and renewing charter documents, and the requirements and limitations of chartering authorities. In addition, the document establishes policies regarding funding sources and processes, employment regulations, and reporting requirements. This document was effective as of August 15th 2003 and remains current through 2007. Any additions and/or revisions must be complied with within 90 days of their effective dates.

"Designed to ensure state integrity and to increase public's trust and awareness of its governing officials." - The Louisiana Public Open Meetings Law outlines the individual citizen's right to observe all meetings of public bodies and to be given notice of such meetings prior to their occurrence. It defines the terms used throughout the law and details the specific instances in which the law does or does not apply. The document goes on to describe the methods used to enforce these statutes and the actions that may be taken by public citizens if they feel they have been denied this right.

The List of Regulatory Publications is an official compilation of the Louisiana Department of Education and the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education containing information on State Plans, Bulletins, policies and procedures regarding education in New Orleans, as well as links to individual education related Bulletins directly from the Louisiana State Register. It is current as of January 2007 and is a source of vast amounts of official educational policy information including, but not limited to accountability standards, grade level content standards, health and safety policies, and special education regulations.
